Japanese–English glossary

Biological products

Also called biologics

生物学的製剤seibutsugakuteki seizai

In general use, medicines derived from living organisms, such as vaccines, antitoxins, blood products and antibodies. In Japanese regulation the word also points to the Minimum Requirements for Biological Products (生物学的製剤基準), issued under the PMD Act, which set manufacturing methods, quality, storage and test methods for vaccines, antitoxins, blood products and other biological products for human use. When a Japanese document cites the Minimum Requirements, check whether your product has its own entry there. An English edition from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases exists but dates from 2006, and the Japanese text prevails.
