Powder X-ray diffractometers (XRPD) read the solid form of a drug substance from its crystal lattice diffraction pattern, identifying polymorph, crystallinity and phase purity. They are used to control solid form and to verify crystallization steps. Where trace crystalline phases must be detected, the peak-to-background ratio and detection sensitivity separate one model from another. Floor-standing research instruments, benchtop XRPD and compact models for small samples and single crystals are listed.
