Airborne viable microorganisms

Also called active air sampling

浮遊菌fuyūkin

Viable microorganisms suspended in the air, measured by drawing a set volume of air through an active air sampler onto agar and counting colony-forming units per cubic meter. It is one of the standard environmental monitoring measurements, distinct from settle plates, which catch organisms that fall onto an open plate over time. Japanese EM reports list results by room, grade and sampling point against alert and action levels.
