Cell therapy

細胞治療saibō chiryō

Treatment in which living cells are the active ingredient, for example CAR-T cells, mesenchymal stem cells or cells derived from iPS cells. Starting material varies from donor to donor, products cannot be terminally sterilized or filtered, and shelf life and sample volumes are limited. In Japan, cell therapy products marketed under the PMD Act are regenerative medical products made under GCTP, while cell-based treatments provided in clinics under the Act on the Safety of Regenerative Medicine follow a separate route for the processing facility.
