Cell identity testing confirms that a cell line is what it is claimed to be, typically by STR profiling, to prevent mix-ups and cross-contamination. It is done for cell bank characterization, before journal submission, and at process milestones. Buyers choose between in-house analysis and a contract lab, and match the method to the species: STR for human lines, SNP, NGS or species-specific PCR for CHO, mouse and iPS cells.
