Limit of detection (LOD)

Also called detection limit

LOD(検出限界)LOD (kenshutsu genkai)

Also written 検出限界、検出限界(LOD)

The lowest amount of analyte in a sample that can be detected, but not necessarily quantified as an exact value. It is a validation characteristic for limit tests for impurities, such as residual DNA or host cell protein methods. Japanese documents use LOD and the Japanese term interchangeably. A method whose detection limit is close to the control limit cannot reliably show compliance, so compare the two before choosing a method.
