Purified water (PW)
精製水seiseisui
Pharmaceutical-grade water for non-parenteral uses, such as oral products, some cleaning steps and early process steps, controlled for conductivity and total organic carbon. The Japanese Pharmacopoeia and USP monographs for purified water set no endotoxin limit, while Ph. Eur. addresses endotoxin for some uses. That difference is one reason purified water cannot stand in for water for injection where endotoxin matters. When a Japanese document names a water grade, check which pharmacopoeia's monograph it refers to.
