Japanese–English glossary
Viability
生存率seizonritsu
The proportion of living cells in a cell population, usually measured by dye exclusion with trypan blue or by flow cytometry. It reflects the stress of culture, freezing and thawing. In cell therapy, viability is a release specification and a critical quality attribute, and low viability undermines potency and dose. In bioreactor culture it tracks the health of the culture alongside viable cell density. Japanese documents also use the English word.
