Taiho Pharmaceutical and FUJIFILM Corporation have formed a strategic partnership to jointly develop manufacturing technology for next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). The companies announced it on August 3, 2026. The work covers ADCs that Taiho created with its AraLinQ platform, and the two will optimize their manufacturing processes.

AraLinQ did not start at Taiho. It is an ADC linker platform from Araris Biotech AG, a spin-off of the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. Taiho announced in March 2025 that it would make Araris a subsidiary, a deal meant to widen its oncology portfolio. The technology has been moving forward since. On April 28, 2026, Taiho Oncology, Taiho Pharmaceutical and Araris announced that ARC-02, an ADC made with AraLinQ, was advancing into phase 1 development, and Araris and Taiho Oncology reported the first patient dosed on June 23.

Once a product is in the clinic, the next question is where and how it will be made. The partnership answers that for Taiho: turn a purchased technology into something that can be produced reliably at commercial scale. Fujifilm brings process development and manufacturing experience for antibody drugs from its biologics CDMO business.

An ADC links a cytotoxic drug to an antibody through a linker. Conventional methods react with the antibody's lysine or cysteine residues, which yields lots in which each antibody carries anywhere from 0 to 8 drug molecules. Antibodies with no drug do nothing, and overloaded ones aggregate more easily and clear from the blood faster. AraLinQ attaches the drug site-specifically at one position in the Fc region, Q295, on a native antibody that has not been engineered. When the number and location of attachments are fixed, the drug-to-antibody ratio (DAR) distribution should stop shifting from lot to lot.

On the facility side, group company FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical plans to start Japan's first integrated ADC manufacturing service in 2027, taking antibody production, conjugation and drug product through in Japan. ADC contract work is hard because it spans three disciplines: biologics production, containment of highly potent APIs (HPAPI) during conjugation, and sterile drug product. Until now no site in Japan could take on all three.

The announcement gives no financial terms, no specific products and no timeline. It also does not say which parts of the Toyama facility Taiho would use once it opens in 2027.
