Hitachi High-Tech launched the UH9000 series of ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) spectrophotometers on September 1, 2026. The instruments measure the spectral properties of solid samples. There are two models, the UH9100 and the UH9200, and Hitachi High-Tech Analysis Corporation handles sales.

The company names two changes. A multi-scan function combines measurements that used to be run several times under different conditions into one run. An automatic polarizer holder cuts setup work. Both change how a measurement is handled rather than what is measured.

When the question changes, so do the conditions: wavelength range, detector, slit width, direction of polarization. Even one sample may be measured several times if several things need to be known. The time goes into switching conditions, and into keeping the sample in place between runs. Each time the sample comes out and goes back in, its position can shift. Swapping polarizers by hand adds operator-to-operator variation as well.

Multi-scan folds those repeats into a single measurement. The automatic polarizer holder has the same goal: keeping conditions identical regardless of how experienced the person running the instrument is. Hitachi High-Tech says this also steadies measurement accuracy.

The two models are positioned differently. The UH9100 is the standard instrument for a wide wavelength range. The UH9200 carries an InGaAs detector that raises sensitivity in the near-infrared and suits samples with low transmittance or low reflectance. Such dark samples pass or return little light, which makes them hard to measure, and the UH9200 handles that with its detector.

The optics keep the parallel-beam design that users valued in the earlier UH4150 series, and compatibility with the UH4150 is maintained. For labs that already run a UH4150, that is the point to weigh when deciding whether to switch.

Hitachi High-Tech presents the instrument as a way to speed up HMAX Industry, the Hitachi group's industrial-solutions line, with a plan to build up data from high-precision measurements of solid samples and combine it with physical AI. The company has not announced the price, a sales target or comments from its developers. The release also does not say how well the instruments suit biological samples or solutions.
